What Is Your Definition Of Success?

Because success is personal...

This is our 7th Episode of TPA. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Here are some James Bond (007) quotes to celebrate:

"The world is not enough.” — Pierce Brosnan, The World Is Not Enough

"We all have our secrets. We just didn’t get to yours yet." — Daniel Craig, No Time To Die

Wealth. Fame. Power. The soft life - whatever that means.

Endless vacations sipping mimosas on sunny beaches.

Shopping sprees and fast cars. Mama, I made it!!!

Social media has made people crave a luxurious lifestyle, which in itself is not bad.

However, people display only the parts of their life that they want you to see, the polished, flashy exterior.

Advertising, music, and movies emphasize the notion that you are as successful as the things you own.

To the average person seeing all this, it might seem like they're not making progress with their own lives.

We are so quick to judge if someone is successful or not, even subconsciously.

We examine their occupation, the clothes they wear, where they live, and their cars.

These are all signs of success.

But is that really how you define success?

With time, I have learned that my picture of success may never be the same as everyone else. And that is okay.

Why You Need Your Personal Definition

Defining what success means for you helps you pursue the right goals in your life that have the most impact in the areas you care most about.

Or else, it will become a long, frustrating journey without a destination.

And even when you get to an end, you may not realize when you've reached it.

If you don’t define your success, you are in danger of constantly feeling not good enough and feeling as if you always could have done better.

It's a thin line between wanting to continuously better yourself and being a perfectionist who is never satisfied.

Just having this clear picture in mind can lift your spirits and take away any stress and anxiety you may be feeling.

You can look back on your day and feel positively energized by the progress you are making, no matter how small.

You can tell when you are spending time on tasks that are not taking you closer to your goals and you can make corrections faster.

This will increase your productivity and focus on what matters to you.

In defining success you need to understand the compromises that come with its pursuit.

You have to realize that having everything is impossible, but having anything is achievable.

Figuring Out The Things That Matter

I remember a friend who spent many years fantasizing about driving a specific SUV.

He wanted to be part of the club, and it was a status symbol that he desired.

A few months after finally getting it, he realized that he did not feel fulfilled or care much for the car.

He sold it.

When you come to this realization, your life begins to revolve around making a meaningful impact.

Your definition of success shifts to prioritize things like love, peace, happiness, relationships, purpose, freedom, good health, financial stability, a balanced lifestyle, and fulfillment.

Final Thoughts

Defining what success is not for you is just as important.

You won't feel fulfilled, no matter what you achieve, if you don't do this.

You'll always look over your shoulder at a mirage of someone else's life, which may not even be close to their reality.

No one else can live your life but you. Live it unapologetically, on your terms.

Success means different things at different stages of life, hence it's crucial to be flexible and adjust to changing circumstances.

Keep in mind that success is subjective and there is no right or wrong answer.

Success is personal.

Define it for yourself, take steps towards your goals, and live a meaningful life.
