A Simple Success Secret You Can Apply Now

Doing The Basics, Excellently

"I can give you a six-word formula for success: Think things through - then follow through." - Eddie Rickenbacker

“Energy and persistence conquer all things.” – Benjamin Franklin

“Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result.” – Oscar Wilde

To be great at anything, you need to master the basics.

Not the complex skills, formulas or tricks. No. What you really need 90% of the time, are the fundamentals.

Have you seen a master ball juggler at work?

You’ll wonder why he or she isn’t the best footballer in the world or playing in Real Madrid.

Now go watch Messi or Kevin De Bruyne in action.

They are excellent at the basics of passing, one touch football, and the occasional dribble.

And it is a combination of these simple moves they use 90% of the time to such devastating effect.

Even Ronaldo only became Ronaldo CR7 when he started dropping the step-overs and tricks and focused on being an excellent goalscorer, doing the simple things of jumping, heading and shooting really well.

Did you do Maths in school?

How many of those complex principles do you apply daily?

I’m sure 90% of your application in real life is of the basics of addition, subtraction and multiplication.

Software development textbooks are full of many beautiful and sometimes complex concepts.

But the average programmer applies only about 20% of them on a regular basis.

Many of the successful businesses around you, are the simplest ones.

You know, the ones that are very boring and unsexy.

I can go on and on with various examples but I’m sure by now you get the point.

Success is simply a natural consequence of consistently executing the basics.

It is not the rocket science we often like to think it is.

How Can You Apply This Learning?

Think about your goals and objectives that you have not started.

You know, those that you have been dreaming about for a while, perhaps years.

It is very likely that you have very grand ideas of:

  • the 1001 things you need to learn first,

  • the huge amount of capital you need to raise to start that business,

  • or the challenge of mastering how to use all the equipment in the gym.

When you think too much this way, you may get overwhelmed and not make progress.

Instead what are the basic fundamentals of that goal or objective?

Learn them, and start implementing them consistently.

Don't worry about the more complex aspects of it, you can figure those out later.

For now, just start.

90% of the time, the basic stuff all you need to succeed. I'm not a betting man, but that’s pretty excellent odds.
